Pézenas

Pézenas, the city of Molière and Boby Lapointe, is located near Domaine de Sainte-Véziane.

The old town of Pézenas is a must-see with its narrow streets and protected facades.

Things to see:

  • the wrought-iron balconies
  • the beautiful stone stairs.
  • Many of the houses date from the 16th-18th centuries, including the Hôtel Jacques Cœur, Hôtel Carion de Nizas and Hôtel de Lacoste.

The city is also known for its antique shops and craft stores, called échoppes. You can stroll through the town and visit the craft stores at night on Wednesdays and Fridays in July and August.

Pézenas is still a theater town with many performances scheduled during the summer. It is also a place steeped in folklore where they celebrate “the foal” during Mardi Gras.

There are many restaurants where you can try petit pâté, a local savory specialty, and Pézenas berlingots, a sweet treat.
