In the 17th century, Paul Riquet had plans to connect the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. After a shipyard 14 years, The Canal du Midi was completed in 1681.
This gem, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, links waterway Toulouse to the Mediterranean over nearly 250 km. The Canal du Midi, then favored the transport of goods and is prized today for boaters and hikers.
